UNS S30400 is the most widely used austenitic stainless steel, often known as 18–8 stainless steel. It balances good corrosion resistance, formability, weldability, and cost-effectiveness, making it the standard choice for general-purpose applications across industries. It performs well in atmospheric, freshwater, and food-processing environments, offering reliable oxidation resistance and ease of fabrication. While not intended for severe chloride or marine conditions, it provides sufficient durability for most daily and industrial uses. Its versatility and stable mechanical properties have established it as a universal grade for structural, decorative, and functional components worldwide.
