Description
UNS S30403 is the low-carbon modification of S30400, developed specifically to overcome intergranular corrosion after welding. With a maximum carbon content of 0.03%, it minimizes chromium carbide precipitation in the heat-affected zone during welding, eliminating the need for post-weld annealing. It maintains the same chromium and nickel content as S30400, preserving excellent formability, toughness, and general corrosion resistance. This grade is ideal for heavy-section welded components that cannot be heat-treated after fabrication. It offers consistent performance in chemical, pharmaceutical, and food-processing equipment where corrosion after welding is a critical concern.
Chemical Composition
C ≤ 0.03, Cr 18.0–20.0, Ni 8.0–12.0, Mn ≤ 2.00, Si ≤ 1.00, P ≤ 0.045, S ≤ 0.030
Mechanical Properties
Tensile Strength ≥ 485 MPaYield Strength ≥ 170 MPaElongation ≥ 40%Hardness ≤ 201 HB
Advantages
Superior intergranular corrosion resistance after welding compared to S30400; excellent weldability without sensitization; good ductility and fabrication characteristics.
Applications
Welded pressure vessels, chemical tanks, piping systems, pharmaceutical equipment, and structural weldments.
Equivalent Grades
AISI 304L, EN 1.4307, GB 022Cr19Ni10
