Overview
UNS S43100 is a nickel-enhanced martensitic stainless steel, containing 1.25-2.50% nickel to improve corrosion resistance and toughness compared to UNS S41000. With 15.0-17.0% chromium, it offers better protection against atmospheric and mild chemical corrosion, while its martensitic structure allows for heat treatment to achieve high strength and hardness. It is magnetic, has good weldability with proper preheating, and exhibits enhanced ductility and impact resistance, making it suitable for high-stress applications in corrosive environments where lower-nickel martensitic grades may fail.
Chemical Composition (wt%)
C ≤ 0.20, Cr: 15.00-17.00, Ni: 1.25-2.50, Mn ≤ 1.00, Si ≤ 1.00, P ≤ 0.045, S ≤ 0.030
Typical Mechanical Properties (Annealed Condition)
Tensile Strength (Rm): ≥ 620 MPa; Yield Strength (Rp0.2): ≥ 415 MPa; Elongation (A): ≥ 18%; Brinell Hardness (HB): ≤ 223
Core Advantages
Nickel addition enhances corrosion resistance and toughness; heat-treatable for high strength and hardness; better ductility and impact resistance than UNS S41000; magnetic; good weldability with preheating; suitable for high-stress corrosive applications; stable performance in mild chemical environments.
Applications
Automotive components, aircraft parts, valves, pumps, gears, structural parts, and high-stress mechanical components requiring high strength and improved corrosion resistance.
Equivalent Grades
EN 1.4057, AISI 431, GB 17Cr16Ni2, SUS431
