1.4532 stainless steel, commonly known as Custom 450 or UNS S45000, is a martensitic precipitation-hardening stainless steel that offers an excellent combination of high strength, good corrosion resistance, and superior toughness. Unlike other precipitation-hardening grades, Custom 450 can be age-hardened to high strength levels while maintaining exceptional ductility and impact resistance. What is the typical heat treatment for Custom 450?
The standard heat treatment for Custom 450 involves:

Solution Treatment: Heat to 1040°C ± 15°C, hold for sufficient time (typically 30 minutes minimum), then rapid cool (air or oil quench) to achieve a soft, martensitic structure

Aging: Heat to a specific temperature depending on desired properties:

480°C (H900): Maximum strength, 4 hours, air cool

540°C (H1000): Balanced properties, 4 hours, air cool

620°C (H1150): Optimum toughness, 4 hours, air cool

Double aging may be used to optimize properties and ensure dimensional stability
