What is EN 10088 X2CrNiMoN22-5-3 material grade?
EN 10088 X2CrNiMoN22-5-3 (Material No. 1.4462) is a widely utilized duplex stainless steel (often referred to as Duplex 2205 or AISI 318LN) characterized by a mixed austenitic-ferritic microstructure, exceptionally high strength (approximately double that of 304/316 stainless steel), and superior corrosion resistance. It exhibits outstanding resistance to chloride-induced pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking (SCC). This material can be fabricated into a variety of practical product forms, including plates, coils, tubes, bars, wires, and more.

1.4462 Stainless Steel: Weldability
1.4462 stainless steel can be welded using a variety of common welding methods, such as ARC, TIG, and laser welding. Gas welding is not suitable.
1.4462 Stainless Steel: Forgeability
Duplex stainless steel 1.4462 exhibits moderate forgeability. Forging should be performed within a temperature range of 1200°C to 900°C, followed by rapid cooling.
1.4462 Stainless Steel: Corrosion Resistance
1.4462 duplex stainless steel demonstrates excellent corrosion resistance in organic acids, phosphoric acid, and chloride-containing media (with a PREN value ranging from 30.9 to 38.0). Due to its austenitic-ferritic microstructure, the material is highly resistant to stress corrosion cracking and intergranular corrosion. It retains its resistance to intergranular corrosion even after welding. At room temperature, this material is also resistant to seawater, steam, and nitric acid; however, pitting corrosion may occur in environments with high concentrations of salt (NaCl).
