ASTM A312 TP310S (UNS S31008) is a super austenitic heat-resistant steel pipe specifically designed for extreme high-temperature industrial environments. ASTM A312 TP310S industrial welded pipes feature an austenitic structure with a relatively low coefficient of thermal expansion (14.4 × 10⁻⁶/°C), effectively reducing the risk of thermal stress cracking caused by sudden temperature changes. Compared to ferritic heat-resistant steels, its service life is extended by approximately 30%. It is ideal for applications such as petrochemical cracking furnaces, heat exchangers, boiler superheaters, and nuclear thermal components.
ASTM A312 TP310S heat-resistant steel pipes support TIG and MIG welding processes, with ER310 filler wire recommended. Post-weld solution annealing is not required, and the susceptibility to intergranular corrosion in the heat-affected zone is reduced by up to 90%. In addition, its high-temperature oxidation resistance is more than 20% higher than that of 309S stainless steel pipes. It can operate continuously in air at temperatures up to 1100°C and demonstrates excellent resistance to oxide scale spallation under cyclic heating conditions.

Why is TP310S chosen over TP304 or TP316 in chemical processing plants?
The fundamental difference lies in their temperature limits. TP304 and TP316 oxidize rapidly and lose their structural strength when exposed to temperatures exceeding 800°C. In contrast, due to its exceptionally high chromium (25%) and nickel (20%) content, TP310S maintains stable oxidation resistance up to 1100°C (2010°F). In chemical processes involving heat exchange, high-temperature gas transport, or cracking reactions, TP310S is the only viable choice for ensuring the system does not suffer a catastrophic structural failure.

What does the "S" in TP310S stand for, and how does it differ from TP310?
The "S" stands for "Lower Carbon." TP310 has a maximum carbon content of 0.25%, whereas the carbon content of TP310S is restricted to below 0.08%. This lower carbon content significantly reduces carbide precipitation (sensitization) during welding, thereby preventing intergranular corrosion in the weld zones when exposed to acidic chemical environments or subjected to high-temperature thermal cycling.
