The hot-rolled 3Cr13 stainless steel bars we supply feature a carbon content of 0.26–0.35% and a chromium content of 12.0–14.0%. Following quenching and tempering (Q&T), the microstructure transforms into martensite, yielding a strength significantly higher than that of austenitic stainless steels such as 304 or 316.

After solution treatment and quenching at 980–1050°C, followed by tempering tailored to specific application requirements, the material typically achieves a hardness of HRC 48–52. When using heat treatment processes optimized for wear-resistant components, a hardness of HRC 52–55 can be achieved, maintaining uniform performance even across large cross-sectional dimensions.

In the annealed condition, the material exhibits a minimum tensile strength of 540 MPa, a yield strength of 225 MPa, and an elongation of 18%. This makes it an ideal material for industrial cutting tools, surgical instruments, valve stems, pump shafts, molds, bearings, and highly wear-resistant mechanical components.

Applications of 3Cr13 Stainless Steel Round Bar

Industrial tools, springs, and cutting components operating at temperatures below 300°C
Shafts, bolts, nozzles, valve seats, and bearing components operating at temperatures below 400°C
Corrosion-resistant plastic molds and blanks for medical surgical instruments
High-load structural components for general industrial use and mildly corrosive environments

What is the hardness of 30Cr13 after heat treatment?

30Cr13 is designed to be hardened through quenching and tempering.
After Quenching (typically at 1000°C–1050°C), the hardness can reach 50-54 HRC.
After Tempering, the hardness can be adjusted based on the required balance between toughness and strength, typically used in the range of 30-45 HRC for mechanical parts.

Product Packaging

End Protection: Larger diameter round bars are fitted with plastic caps at the ends to prevent end-face impact and scratches to other bars.

Desiccant: An oxygen absorber/desiccant is placed inside the wooden crate or sealed packaging to absorb condensation inside the shipping container and prevent rust spots on the 30Cr13 material.

Waterproof Paper: The packaging is lined with a polyethylene (PE) waterproof film or kraft paper.

FAQ

Does 30Cr13 have good corrosion resistance?

As a martensitic stainless steel, it has moderate corrosion resistance. It is resistant to fresh water, steam, and mild atmospheric conditions. However, it is not as corrosion-resistant as austenitic grades like 304 or 316. Its corrosion resistance is at its best when the surface is polished and the material is in the hardened and tempered state.

Is 30Cr13 good for knives?

30Cr13 (also known as 3Cr13 or X30Cr13) is a budget-friendly martensitic stainless steel widely used for entry-level kitchen and utility knives. While it will not hold an edge like a premium blade, it is highly corrosion-resistant, extremely easy to sharpen, and highly resistant to chipping.

What is the difference between 30Cr13 and 3Cr13?

There is no difference between 30Cr13 and 3Cr13. They refer to the exact same grade of martensitic stainless steel, but represent different generations of Chinese naming standards: 3Cr13 is the old designation, and 30Cr13 is the newer national standard.
