1.4021 Stainless Steel Bar Production Process

We offer 1.4021 stainless steel round bars with diameters ranging from φ5mm to φ600mm, available in both annealed (+A) and quenched and tempered (+QT700) finishes. Dimensional accuracy is strictly controlled: bright bars achieve h9/h11 tolerances, straightness ≤1.5mm/m, and surface finish supports centerless grinding and peeling, resulting in high concentricity.

Our 1.4021 stainless steel bars have a chromium content of 12.0% to 14.0%, tensile strength of 700 to 950 MPa, yield strength up to 600 MPa, and a hardness of up to 46 HRC after tempering. Compared to austenitic stainless steels, they offer superior machinability, moderate resistance to corrosion from fresh water, steam, and weakly alkaline media, and excellent wear resistance.
Each batch undergoes 100% ultrasonic testing according to EN 10228-3 standards and comes with a complete factory inspection certificate. What is the difference between QT700 and QT800 tempers?
They represent the strength grades of quenched and tempered (QT):
QT700: Yield strength ≥ 500 MPa; Tensile strength 700–850 MPa. (Higher ductility and impact resistance).
QT800: Yield strength ≥ 600 MPa; Tensile strength 800–950 MPa. (Higher hardness and wear resistance).
Is 1.4021 easy to machine?
In the annealed (+A) condition, its machinability is relatively good comparable to low-alloy carbon steels. In the hardened and tempered condition, it is more challenging but still manageable with high-quality carbide tools.

Product Packaging
End Protection: Larger diameter round bars are fitted with plastic caps at the ends to prevent end-face impact and scratches to other bars.
Desiccant: An oxygen absorber/desiccant is placed inside the wooden crate or sealed packaging to absorb condensation inside the shipping container and prevent rust spots on the 1.4021 material.
Waterproof Paper: The packaging is lined with a polyethylene (PE) waterproof film or kraft paper.
