What is Precision Ground 405 Stainless Steel Rod ?
405 stainless steel bar (UNS S40500) is a ferritic stainless steel with aluminum (Al) as the stabilizing element. It is processed into high-precision round bars through precision grinding process. It has no oxide scale, metallic luster, no scratches or defects. It is suitable for direct assembly of precision parts (such as bearings, valve stems) while reducing costs. It is an economical choice to replace high-alloy stainless steel.

Does the surface of 405 stainless steel bar need additional treatment after precision grinding?
General situation: The ground surface (Ra≤0.8 μm) is free of oxide scale, smooth and clean, and can be directly used for precision assembly.
Is 405 stainless steel precision bar suitable for welding?
Welding performance: Good, aluminum stabilization design avoids the precipitation of chromium carbide in the welding heat affected zone (HAZ), and can pass the intergranular corrosion test (ASTM A262 E method) without post-weld heat treatment.
Heat treatment of 405 stainless steel precision bar
Annealing treatment: 750-850°C slow cooling, softening the material to ≤183 HB, eliminating internal stress;
No need for solid solution treatment: Aluminum stabilization design makes it unnecessary to have additional high temperature treatment after welding or hot working, saving costs.
