Description
Grade SUS304L is the low-carbon variant of SUS304, designed specifically to eliminate intergranular corrosion after welding. With a maximum carbon content of 0.03%, it minimizes chromium carbide precipitation in the heat-affected zone during welding, eliminating the need for post-weld annealing. It retains the same chromium and nickel content as SUS304, maintaining excellent formability, toughness, and general corrosion resistance. Unlike SUS304, SUS304L is more suitable for heavy-section welded components that cannot be heat-treated after fabrication. It offers consistent performance in chemical, pharmaceutical, and food-processing equipment where corrosion resistance after welding is a critical concern, providing a more reliable solution than standard SUS304 in welded structures.
Chemical Composition (wt%)
C ≤ 0.03, Cr: 18.00-20.00, Ni: 8.00-11.00, Mn ≤ 2.00, Si ≤ 1.00, P ≤ 0.045, S ≤ 0.030
Mechanical Properties
Tensile Strength ≥ 480 MPa, Yield Strength ≥ 175 MPa, Elongation ≥ 40%, Hardness ≤ 200 HB
Advantages
Superior intergranular corrosion resistance after welding compared to SUS304; excellent weldability without sensitization; good ductility and fabrication characteristics; non-magnetic; suitable for welded structures.
Applications
Welded pressure vessels, chemical tanks, piping systems, pharmaceutical equipment, food processing pipelines, and large welded structural parts requiring post-weld corrosion resistance.
Equivalent Grades
AISI 304L, UNS S30403, EN 1.4307, GB 022Cr19Ni10
