Are you searching for a tank material that remains corrosion-resistant even in highly acidic environments? When handling high-concentration sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, or chemical media containing chloride ions, standard 316L stainless steel often succumbs to pitting corrosion or stress corrosion cracking within a short period.
As a specialized supplier of specialty steels, GNEE offers high-quality SUS 904L (UNS N08904) stainless steel plates that comply with ASTM B625 / ASME SB625 standards. Whether you require materials for manufacturing large-scale sulfuric acid storage tanks, heat exchangers, or pressure vessels, our 904L medium-to-heavy plates ensure an exceptionally long service life for your equipment.

Why is 904L Plate the Preferred Choice for Storage Tank Manufacturing?

SUS 904L stainless steel plate is a super-austenitic stainless steel containing 1.5% copper (Cu). This composition endows it with exceptional corrosion resistance in sulfuric acid of various concentrations (up to 70°C), effectively resolving the persistent problem of perforation in chemical storage tanks. With its high content of 25% nickel (Ni) and 4.5% molybdenum (Mo), 904L demonstrates pitting resistance far superior to that of 316L in high-chloride environments, thereby effectively mitigating the risk of tank leakage caused by localized corrosion.
Regarding the plate rolling and welding processes inherent to storage tank manufacturing, our 904L plates exhibit excellent ductility. Even during the welding of thick plates, the material's low carbon content minimizes carbide precipitation, thereby ensuring the corrosion resistance of the weld zones.

Inspection: Every batch undergoes 100% Ultrasonic Testing (UT) to ensure that the interior of the thick plates is free from blowholes and inclusions, thereby fully complying with safety standards for pressure vessels.
Professional Packaging: For large-format plates intended for storage tank fabrication, we utilize reinforced channel-steel pallets and protective plastic film packaging designed to resist seawater corrosion. Protective strips are affixed to the plate edges to prevent corner damage during both sea and land transport, ensuring that the material is ready for immediate rolling upon arrival.

 FAQ

Q1: Why is the price of 904L so much higher than that of 316L?
A: 904L contains more than twice the nickel content of 316L, in addition to expensive molybdenum and copper. Although the initial investment is higher, in highly corrosive environments, 904L offers extremely low maintenance costs and an equipment service life that is 3 to 5 times longer than that of 316L, thereby significantly reducing the risk of downtime caused by equipment replacement.
Q2: What precautions should be taken when welding 904L during the fabrication of storage tanks?
A: We recommend using ER385 welding wire for 904L. Due to its high coefficient of thermal expansion, we advise keeping the interpass temperature below 150°C to prevent hot cracking. Our technical team can provide detailed guidance on welding parameters, which will be shipped along with the materials.
Q3: How do you guarantee the authenticity of your materials?
A: Every SUS 904L plate undergoes Positive Material Identification (PMI) testing and is accompanied by an original Mill Test Certificate (MTC) that complies with the EN 10204 3.1 standard. We also welcome on-site inspections by third-party agencies, such as SGS or BV.
